Pedestrian Lolomanaia Soakai, 28, Killed in Oakland Crash on International Boulevard
OAKLAND, CA (June 27, 2022) – A pedestrian crash killed Lolomanaia Soakai on International Boulevard in East Oakland.
Police identified the 28-year-old Hayward man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Sunday.
The incident happened when Lolomanaia Soakai was standing on the sidewalk with three other men on International Boulevard in East Oakland.
At the same time, a Nissan 350Z was traveling at a high rate of speed east in a lane designated for buses only. The car then slammed into a vehicle making a turn onto International from 54th Avenue.
Police said the Nissan struck several parked vehicles, including SUVs and motorcycles. In the process, one SUV hit one pedestrian, Lolomanaia Soakai.
Speeding Driver Suspect in Wreck
The Nissan drove another 150 feet and came to a stop with major damage in the westbound lanes. The Mercury News and KTVU News wrote that the accident occurred on June 26 at about 1:51 a.m.
Lolomanaia Soakai died as a result of the accident. Paramedics rushed the other victims to the hospital and listed them in stable condition.
Meanwhile, firefighters freed the man driving the Nissan from the wreckage. Police determined that he had just left a sideshow in another part of East Oakland prior to the incident.
They soon arrested and booked the driver at Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of multiple charges including vehicular manslaughter. The Oakland pedestrian crash is still under investigation.
