Driver Hits Bicyclist, Pole on Bellflower Boulevard
LONG BEACH, Calif. (May 1, 2018) – A driver who struck a bicyclist and then a light pole Sunday morning died at a hospital the following day after suffering major injuries in the collision at Bellflower Boulevard and Atherton Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The crash took place about 8:10 a.m. on Sunday, April 29th. A man driving a 2018 Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on Bellflower Boulevard when he struck the 64-year-old Long Beach man riding a bicycle. The rider had been stopped at a red traffic light when he was hit from behind by the Ford Fusion. The car kept going through the intersection and eventually hit the traffic light pole. The crash left the man critically injured and he was transported to a hospital for treatment, but sadly he died the next day.
Paramedics also transported the injured bicyclist to a hospital, but his injuries were not life threatening.

It’s unknown at this time why the driver struck the bicyclist or lost control of his vehicle. Police are reviewing the evidence and interviews with those involved and witnesses to piece together what happened. It appears that the bicyclist was hurt and will have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim to recover their losses.
