1 Dead, 8 Injured in Long Beach Pursuit Crash
LONG BEACH, Calif. (March 29, 2023) — Sara Shorteno, 74, of Toronto, Canada, died in a Long Beach crash Tuesday night in Long Beach on Pacific Coast Highway and 2nd Street.
The deadly, nine-vehicle crash occurred around 8:05 p.m. on March 28th, according to KTLA News.
The Canadian woman died and eight other people were hospitalized after a police pursuit ended in the collision.
It started around 8 p.m. when a police officer attempted to pull over a suspect driving in the Seal Beach area near 5th Street and Marina Drive, the Seal Beach Police Department said.
Police attempted to stop the motorist in a 2006 Lexus, however, and the female driver briefly stopped. However, she reportedly changed places with a male passenger who fled the scene before crashing with the other eight motorists on PCH and 2nd Street.
Chaz Lamar Long, 39, of Antioch, was driving the Lexus and fled on foot after the crash, but police used a stun gun to stop him and arrested him shortly afterwards.
Police also reported there was at least one person trapped inside another vehicle. Firefighters extricated the person and transported them to a hospital.
