Homeless Man Killed By Garbage Truck in Long Beach Alley
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Jan. 19, 2022) – A garbage truck ran over and killed a 57-year-old homeless man lying in a Long Beach alley on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim suffered major injuries and died at the scene following the accident at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18th, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The death happened near the intersection of Del Rey Court and Anaheim Street, the Long Beach Police Department reports.
The driver of a privately-owned garbage truck was on Del Rey Court when he allegedly backed up and ran over the man.
The 62-year-old garbage truck driver stopped after the collision and the Norwalk man is cooperating with authorities investigating the death.
Police eventually released the driver from the scene, but the investigation is ongoing.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner will release the name of the deceased after notification of his next of kin.
