Security Guard Killed in Long Beach Hit-and-Run Crash on San Gabriel Avenue
LONG BEACH, CA (June 12, 2021) – A security guard of a Long Beach apartment complex was killed after a hit-and-run crash on San Gabriel Avenue.
The Press Telegram and KTLA News wrote that the tragic accident occurred on Saturday afternoon. Officers reported the collision shortly before 3:10 p.m.
The incident began when a gray 2012 Chevy Tahoe was traveling at a high rate of speed on San Gabriel Avenue in Long Beach. The SUV spun out of control and then hit the security guard shack.
Police said the car struck the man at the Century Villages at Cabrillo apartment complex in the 2000 block of San Gabriel Avenue.
Speeding Driver Hits Guard, Flees Scene
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the victim lying on the ground as a result of the collision. They soon pronounced him dead at the scene.
The name of the deceased guard remains unreleased pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver of the Chevy abandoned the car and fled on foot.
Authorities are still searching for the motorist. Officials forced a portion of San Gabriel Avenue to shut down following the Long Beach hit-and-run crash.
