
Lorenzo Morales Cortes, 24, ID’d as Suspect in Madera County Fatal DUI Crash
MADERA COUNTY, CA (February 13, 2023) – Authorities detained Lorenzo Morales Cortes after a fatal DUI crash on Avenue 15 in Madera County.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 24-year-old Fresno man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck occurred on Sunday.
The incident began when Lorenzo Antonio Morales Cortes was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro west on Avenue 15 in Madera County. At the same time, a 2012 Mini Cooper was going east.
CHP said Lorenzo Morales Cortes then crossed over the yellow line near Road 39 1/2. In the process, he slammed into the Mini Cooper head-on.
Woman, 19, Killed in Wreck
The Fresno Bee and ABC News wrote that the collision took place on February 12 shortly after 6 p.m. The driver of the Mini Cooper, a 19-year-old Madera woman, died as a result of the accident.
The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Lorenzo Morales Cortes sustained major injuries following the crash.
Paramedics rushed him to the Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment. Meanwhile, officers soon arrested and booked Lorenzo Morales Cortes into jail for DUI.
The reports added that the suspect had a prior DUI in Fresno. The cause of the Madera County DUI crash is still under investigation.
