1 Killed, 1 Severely Injured in Los Angeles Pedestrian Crash at Olive and 9th Streets
LOS ANGELES, CA (November 19, 2022) – A DUI wrong-way crash at Olive and 9th streets killed a pedestrian and injured another in Los Angeles.
According to the KTLA News and NBC Los Angeles, the tragic accident took place late Friday night. Officers reported the collision on November 18 at around 11:40 p.m.
The incident began when a silver Lexus IS200t was going west on 9th Street, an eastbound one-way street, toward Olive Street in downtown Los Angeles.
At the same time, two men were crossing at the intersection of 9th and Olive streets. Los Angeles police said the car then struck the victims in a marked pedestrian crosswalk.
Both men ended up thrown into the air and landed on the road. The Lexus continued and slammed head-on into another vehicle waiting at a red light in the area.
Drunk Wrong-Way Driver Hits Victims
The victims, a 36-year-old man and a 32-year-old man, sustained severe injuries as a result of the accident. Paramedics rushed them to a hospital, where the older patient died.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, the male driver failed to leave the scene after colliding with a passenger car and a tractor trailer.
Police determined that he was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the men. They soon arrested and booked the motorist on suspicion of felony DUI.
Officers forced the corner 9th and Olive streets to shut down for a time following the incident. The Los Angeles pedestrian crash is still under investigation.
