Pedestrian Critically Injured in Hit-and-run Crash in Vermont Square Area
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2019) — A 50-year-old pedestrian was critically injured early Wednesday morning when they were struck by a driver who fled the scene.
The crash too place about 6 a.m. at a crosswalk in the Vermont Square area of South Los Angeles at the intersection of West Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard and South Budlong Avenue. Police say the driver was making a left-hand turn at this busy intersection when they struck the victim in a crosswalk.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the driver attempted to flee the scene after striking the pedestrian. A witness followed the suspect and police were able to locate the person and arrest them after the collision.
The injured pedestrian was transported to a hospital where they are being treated for major injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the LAPD.
