LOS ANGELES, California (December 2, 2016) — A man identified as Joshua Wheeler, 29, was fatally struck Thursday night when he was run over by a big rig truck in the 1200 block of East Seventh Street, according to a report by the Los Angles Fire Department.
The fatal incident took place at about 11:56 p.m.
Police say the driver of the 18-wheel truck was traveling on Merchant Street approaching Seventh Street.
He told police he saw Joshua Wheeler walking westbound on Seventh Street near the sidewalk. The truck driver made a turn onto Seventh Street and felt a bump. He stopped and got out of the vehicle as he realized he had driven over something which happened to be Wheeler.
The 29-year-old man said to have lived a transient lifestyle died of his injuries at the scene of the incident.
Police say the driver of the big rig did not appear to have been under the influence as he was interrogated by officials.
Per the Daily News, the incident remains under investigation as liability remains unclear.
