Bicycle Rider Killed in Los Banos Cras Near Henry Miller and Johnson
LOS BANOS, CA (October 27, 2022) – A crash killed a bicycle rider near Henry Miller Avenue and Johnson Road in Los Banos.
According to The Merced Sun Star and Los Banos Enterprise, the tragic accident took place on Wednesday evening. Officers reported the collision at about 7:19 p.m.
The incident happened on October 26 when a 19-year-old woman was riding a bicycle on westbound Henry Miller Avenue in Los Banos.
A 2009 Nissan Maxima was traveling at about 55 mph in the same direction at the time. The California Highway Patrol said the Nissan then struck the rear of the bike.
Woman Hit by Car
The driver, 42-year-old Los Banos resident Maria Hinojosa, collided with the bicyclist east of Johnson Road. The rider landed on the hood of the Maxima as a result of the collision and hit the windshield of the car.
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived and pronounced the cyclist dead at the scene. Her name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, CHP added that Maria Hinojosa and her 46-year-old male passenger ended up unharmed. Officers forced a stretch of Henry Miller Avenue to shut down for a time following the incident.
The cause of the Los Banos bicycle crash is still under investigation.
