Motorcyclist, 79, Killed in Los Banos Crash on Highway 165 Near Mervel
LOS BANOS, CA (November 28, 2022) – A crash killed a motorcyclist on Highway 165 near Mervel Avenue in Los Banos.
According to an article published by The Merced Sun Star, the tragic accident took place on Monday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck at about 4:04 p.m.
The incident happened when a 79-year-old Santa Maria man was riding a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on Highway 165 south of Los Banos.
A 2017 Nissan Altima was traveling about 60 mph in the same direction at the time. The Nissan then stopped completely in the lane due to a dog in the roadway.
Motorcycle and Car Collide
As the motorcyclist approached the Altima from the rear, his bike collided with the car. The California Highway Patrol said the two collided on Highway 165, south of Mervel Avenue.
The rider ended up ejected from the motorcycle as a result of the collision. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found him down on the ground.
The patient sustained major injuries following the incident. An air ambulance flew him to the Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto, where he soon died.
The name of the deceased party has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the Nissan, 30-year-old Merced resident Eliseo Mendez, ended up unharmed.
Meanwhile, CHP forced the northbound lanes of Highway 165 to shut down for a time near Mervel after the wreck. The cause of the fatal Los Banos crash is still under investigation.
