LOS GATOS (October 24, 2017)- According to the California Highway Patrol, a motorcyclist was badly injured following a collision on southbound Highway 17 just south of Summit Road.

The dispatch report read that the driver of a white vehicle struck the motorcycle rider who ended up within northbound traffic lanes.
It was noted that the white vehicle began smoking shortly following the crash before eventually engulfing in flames.
The fire department and paramedics were instantly contacted and arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire and transport the motorcyclist who suffered major injuries to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
Meanwhile, there were no details provided indicating whether or not the driver of the white vehicle suffered injuries.
Per the California Highway Patrol, all of southbound Highway 17 remained shut down for approximately an hour and a half while police officials perused the scene to collect and gather evidence to determine what exactly happened here and why.

A forensic examination of both the motorcycle and the vehicle, as well as photos that were taken of the scene, will help investigators determine which party ultimately caused the accident. Authorities will thoroughly look into how fast each driver was going, whether or not alcohol or drugs were involved, whether or not there were any mechanical issues with either vehicle. The investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicles such as point of impact, final resting positions of each vehicle, skid marks, and gouge marks.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, injured victims who are not held liable for causing an accident may pursue a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver where they may seek compensation for damages including medical expenses and hospital bills, loss of income from being out of work due to injury, and pain and suffering.
