1 Killed, 2 Injured in Los Gatos Crash on Highway 17 Near Bear Creek Road

LOS GATOS, CA (June 5, 2021) – A septic tanker truck crash killed one person and injured two others on Highway 17 in Los Gatos.

According to The Mercury News and NBC Bay Area, the tragic accident occurred on Saturday morning. Officers reported the wreck at about 8:10 a.m.

The incident began when a septic tanker was traveling on Black Road, perpendicular to Highway 17, in Los Gatos. For a unknown reason, the brakes of the truck gave out.

Septic Tanker Truck Hits 2 Cars Saturday

The California Highway Patrol said the septic tanker went across a frontage road and then through a barrier. The truck ultimately slammed into a Mercedes-Benz and a pickup truck.

The vehicles crashed on southbound Highway 17 near Bear Creek Road. The driver of the pickup, a San Jose man in his 30s, died as a result of the collision.

Paramedics took the passenger in the Mercedes and the operator of the tanker to a hospital for treatment of minor wounds. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.

Meanwhile, officials soon shut down all southbound lanes of the road at Highway 9 for several hours following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Los Gatos crash is still under investigation.
