LOS GATOS: Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 17 and SR-9 East
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (Aug. 27, 2026) — A two-vehicle crash on northbound Highway 17 near the State Route 9 interchange Wednesday caused major damage and shut down one lane in the Los Gatos area, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision was reported around 3:23 p.m. on August 26, 2026, according to the report. The crash involved a white Mercedes sedan and a gold Toyota sedan.
According to the CHP incident log, the Toyota was reportedly rear-ended with significant force. Both vehicles came to rest in the center divider, and both parties were reported to be out of their vehicles.
CHP officers shut down Lane No. 1 while emergency crews responded. Fire personnel were dispatched to the scene. A tow truck was requested for the damaged Mercedes, while another tow service was requested for the gold Toyota.
The CHP later reported that the incident had been cleared by the California Highway Patrol’s Freeway Service Patrol. The available incident information did not indicate whether anyone was seriously injured.
The crash caused traffic impacts in the area while crews worked to remove the damaged vehicles from the roadway. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.
