LUCERNE: Man on Scooter Hit by Car in Crash on Highway 20

Major Injury Collision on State Route 20 in Clear Lake Area

CLEAR LAKE, Calif., (July 28, 2026) — A pedestrian riding a mobility scooter and a vehicle were involved in a crash on Highway 20 at 1st Avenue in Lucerne, resulting in major injuries.

The incident was reported to the CHP on July 28th at approximately 3:40 p.m. when a white Ford Taurus reportedly collided with a male pedestrian who was on a mobility scooter. The accident took place in the Clear Lake area.

Emergency responders from multiple units arrived at the scene shortly after the collision. At 3:42 p.m., it was noted that the white vehicle was on top of the scooter. The pedestrian, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) changed the incident classification from a traffic collision with injuries to a major injury collision at 4:59 p.m. The vehicle involved, a white Ford Taurus with the license plate CA/9CIS219, remained at the scene.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the condition of the pedestrian. The CHP is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact the CHP.
