4 Injured in Lucerne Valley Tow Truck Crash on Highway 18
LUCERNE VALLEY (January 6, 2019) – Four were injured, two critically, after a traffic collision involving a tow truck on Highway 18 Sunday afternoon, according to Victor Valley News.
The accident took place at about 2:18 p.m. near the Mitsubishi Cement Plant.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said a Blue Sky Towing flatbed truck out of Hesperia was hauling a white full-size van when for unknown reason it spun out of control on the highway.
The truck left the roadway and ultimately plunged down an embankment. Highway 18 is also known as North Shore Drive.
San Bernardino County Fire Department officials responded to the scene and found that both the van and tow truck sustained major damage and wedged near large boulders.

The names and condition of the victims were not immediately available.
Meanwhile, a witness told CHP that the brakes of the truck were seen smoking as it went down the hill. Authorities are still investigating what exactly caused the incident.

A forensic examination of the tow-truck, as well as photos that were taken of the scene, will help investigators determine the cause of the crash. Authorities will thoroughly look into how fast each driver was going, whether or not alcohol or drugs played a role, whether or not there was any mechanical issue with the truck, and whether or not the driver was distracted or reckless at the time. The investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicle as point of impact, its final resting position, skid marks, and gouge marks.
Pending the result and findings of the investigation, the injured and held not liable for the collision may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit, seeking a compensation for all the hospital bills, future medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
