Worker Buried Alive Digging Backyard Swimming Pool Hole
ORANGE, Calif. (Dec. 28, 2020) — Luciano Gonzalez Munoz, 45, of Puebla, Mexico, died Saturday, Dec. 19 when he was buried in the backyard of a home on Cliffway Drive while working with a construction crew to dig a hole for a swimming pool.
The man was identified as Luciano Gonzalez Munoz by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.
Munoz was part of a crew excavating in the backyard of the residence in the 6200 block of Cliffway Drive. The soil collapsed into the hole about 11 a.m. and workers called 911 for help.
When firefighters arrived, Munoz was buried shoulder deep in dirt and was able to communicate with them even though he had difficulty breathing. Fellow workers attempted to dig the man out of the hole from the bottom of the 10-foot deep hole in the ground.
Firefighters took over the rescue, however, there was a second collapse and this time it completely engulfed Munoz.
They were unable to save Munoz and later they recovered his body about five hours after they arrived.
The report did not disclosed the name of the company that Munoz was working for at the time of the accident.
