Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-run Crash; Driver Arrested (updated)
TULARE, Calif. (June 8, 2022) — Luciano Ruiz was arrested after he allegedly admitted he was the driver in a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident at J Street and Tulare Avenue in Tulare.
The deadly crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. on Monday, June 6th, according to a report in YourCentralValley.
The driver struck a pedestrian in a wheelchair as he was crossing the street outside of any marked crosswalks.
A 62-year-old man suffered serious injuries in the crash. Some bystanders came to help the man and provide first aid until paramedics arrived. Paramedics transported the injured pedestrian by ambulance to a hospital where he later died. Ruben Torres, 62, is identified as the man who died in the crash.
Police say the motorist took off without calling for help or helping the injured man. They later located the suspect’s vehicle parked in front of a home occupied by Luciano Ruiz who admitted he was the driver who hit the pedestrian.
Luciano Ruiz faces felony hit-and-run charges as well as driving without a valid California driver’s license. Authorities booked him at the Tulare County Jail.
