Lucy Martinez, 50, Badly Injured in Kern County DUI Crash on Highway 65
KERN COUNTY, CA (February 16, 2023) – A DUI crash left Lucy Martinez badly injured on Highway 65 in Kern County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 50-year-old Bakersfield woman as one of the victims in the fatal wreck which occurred on Tuesday.
The incident happened when Lucy Martinez was riding as a passenger in a Toyota going south on Highway 65 in Kern County. At the same time, a 2022 Dodge Ram was traveling north at about 55 mph.
CHP said the driver of the Dodge, 52-year-old William Pederson, crossed over the solid double yellow line. He went partially into the southbound lane, directly into the path of the Toyota.
Woman, 53, Killed in Wreck
In the process, the Porterville man slammed head-on into the other car north of Famoso Road. The 53-year-old Bakersfield woman driving the Toyota died as a result of the collision.
The Bakersfield Californian and Bakersfield Now wrote that the accident took place on February 14 at around 3:50 a.m. Lucy Martinez survived the crash with moderate injuries.
Paramedics rushed her to Kern Medical for treatment. Meanwhile, William Pederson sustained minor injuries following the incident.
Officers determined that he was under the influence of alcohol when he struck the women. They soon arrested the suspect for DUI and other charges.
