Deadly Crash at Ontario Intersection on Fourth of July
ONTARIO, Calif. (July 9, 2024) — Luis Antonio Chavez, 34, of Anaheim, died in a pedestrian accident on the Fourth of July at Etiwanda Avenue and 4th Street in Ontario.
The deadly collision occurred at 3:41 a.m. on July 4th, according to a press release by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
The Ontario Police Department and paramedics responded to the crash scene early Thursday and pronounced the victim dead on scene. The report did not mention if the driver involved stopped after the crash or if any charges are pending.

Ontario Pedestrian Accidents
Two years ago, a 28-year-old man suffered serious injuries while attempting to cross Etiwanda Avenue near 4th Street in Ontario.
Roughly 50 of the injury and fatal traffic accidents in Ontario in 2021 were pedestrians, according to statistics compiled by the Office of Traffic Safety. Five of those pedestrians were under 15 years old and five were older than 65 years old, the report said. Additionally, roughly 10 percent or 92 of the 952 traffic collisions in the city involved alcohol.
