Suspect Arrested after SUV Crashes into Van Nuys Building

 Luis Carrillo-Castaneda Arrested Fatal Van Nuys Crash Woodley AvenueVAN NUYS, Calif. (Oct. 25, 2021) – Police arrested Luis Carrillo-Castaneda, 18, of Los Angeles, following a fatal, high-speed crash Sunday night on Woodley Avenue.

The 8:05 p.m. collision on Oct. 24th left Connie Levinson, 53, of Woodland Hills, dead and five other people injured, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The teenager was reportedly driving “at a high rate of speed” as he headed westbound on Saticoy Street. He was allegedly participating in a nearby street takeover. Authorities say he was allegedly doing donuts in the middle of an intersection before he crashed into the building at a high speed, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The vehicle crashed through a building on the southwest corner of Woodley Avenue and Saticoy Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Authorities noted the vehicle left 200 feet of skid marks on the street and traveled some 75 feet into the back of the building before it came to a stop.

Luis Carrillo-Castaneda allegedly fled the scene after his 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe slammed into the building located at 7600 Woodley Avenue. The location was being used as a Halloween popup store.

Police officials later identified the driver as Luis Carrillo-Castaneda. He was booked into jail on suspicion of murder, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
