PALMDALE, Calif. (May 6, 2021) – Richard Gomez and Lurlene Smith were among five people critically injured and one killed Thursday morning after a 3-vehicle crash in the Palmdale area.
The collision took place about 3:50 a.m. on 50th Street East north of Avenue P, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Michael Reinert, 52, of Lancaster, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban southbound on 50th Street East before the vehicle veered into opposing traffic and collided with a northbound 2020 Chevrolet Malibu occupied by four people.
The Suburban reportedly sideswiped the Malibu and then collided with a southbound Toyota Yaris, the CHP said.
Also, the crash took the left of a 66-year-old Palmdale man riding as a front passenger seat in the Malibu. Sadly, he died at the scene of the Palmdale collision and police did not release his name.
Lurlene Smith, 68, of Palmdale, and her two other passengers, suffered major injuries and were taken to a hospital, the CHP reported.
The driver of the Yaris, Richard Gomez, 32, of Lancaster, was also critically injured and hospitalized.
Finally, paramedics transported Michael Reinert to a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
Police do not suspect drugs and or alcohol were factors in the collision.
