2 Adults, 2 Children Killed in Crash on Interstate 5 Freeway Identified
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (March 3, 2022) — Lute Fekitoa, 43, Naomi Cook, 35, and two children ages 9 and 13 years old died in a Fresno County collision Wednesday on the Interstate 5 Freeway.
The two-vehicle crash also left three people with major injuries, according to ABC 30 News.
The traffic accident between a Chrysler Aspen SUV and a semi-truck happened on the Interstate 5 Freeway, just north of Highway 33 in Fresno County. Those who died and those injured in the crash were members of two families from Washington.
A 52-year-old man was driving the SUV southbound on the freeway with six passengers. He reportedly drifted into the west shoulder and the SUV crashed into the back of an empty 18-wheeler truck.
2 Adults, One Child Suffer Major Injuries
The impact of the crash was significant, leaving the Chrysler heavily damaged. In fact, the front end of the vehicle became stuck to the 18-wheeler and rest of it was a few yards south of the impact.
Some of the passengers from the SUV were ejected from the vehicle into the roadway.
The CHP says the four victims who included Lute Fekitoa, 43, and her 9-year-old daughter. Also, Naomi Cook, 35, and her 13-year-old son.
Meanwhile, three people were badly injured including the 52-year-old driver of the Chrysler, a 37-year-old man and a 12-year-old girl. All three people were transported by ambulances to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. The driver of the SUV is the husband of Lute and father of the 9-year-old girl. The 12-year-old girl is the daughter of Naomi Cook and her father is the 37-year-old man who survived.
Investigators are working on the case and will determine what led to the crash and liability.
