3 Killed, 2 Injured in Highway 145 Crash Near Madera
MADERA COUNTY (November 12, 2017) – A fatal traffic accident took place Saturday night on Highway 145, east of Madera, according to The Fresno Bee.
The wreck involving three vehicles occurred at about 7:48 p.m.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said a 23-year-old Madera man was driving a Honda Civic west on Highway 145 when for an unknown reason he swerved into the eastbound lane.
In an attempt to avoid collision, the driver of a GMC Canyon pickup veered south onto the shoulder. The pickup was struck by the Civic and ultimately spun.
The 23-year-old motorist then collided head-on with a Honda Accord that was traveling behind the GMC. He died as a result of the crash.
CHP affirmed that the 60-year-old woman driving the Accord and her 60-year-old male passenger were also killed. Another occupant in the Accord, a 62-year-old woman, was transported to Community Regional Medical Center with complaint of pain to her entire body.
All three in the Accord are from Firebaugh. Meanwhile, a passenger in the GMC, a 55-year-old Los Banos woman, also complained of pain but refused to be treated.
Officials believed that alcohol or drugs may have played a role in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
