Vehicle Strikes, Kills Man on SR-99
Madera, CA (January 28, 2023) – A pedestrian died following a traffic accident that occurred in the area of Highway 99 and Avenue 20 1/2 Wednesday, January 25.
According to ABC30 and Merced Sun-Star News, a 32-year-old Merced man was driving on the highway around 10 p.m. Earlier reports indicated the motorist stopped and pulled over by the center divider near Avenue 20 1/2. For reasons still unclear, the driver stepped out of his car and walked into the traffic lanes.

Officials said a passing Ford vehicle was not able to avoid and struck the male pedestrian. The force from the impact resulted in fatal injuries to the victim. Responding paramedics sadly pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. Pending confirmation and notification of next of kin, the identity of the deceased remained undisclosed.
