Boy, 17, Hit and Critically Injured by Drunk Driver in Madera
MADERA (December 3, 2018) – A teen pedestrian was critically injured after an alleged DUI crash along Road 25 Monday morning, according to Merced Sun-Star.
The accident took place at about 6:30 a.m., north of Avenue 9 1/2. Road 25 is also known as South Granada Drive.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said a 17-year-old Madera boy was waiting for the school bus when he was struck by a van.
The vehicle was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed south on Road 25 when it left the roadway, crossed both lanes and then hit the victim.
Suspect Manuel Rosales, 23, Arrested For DUI
CHP affirmed that the teen was thrown about 100 feet upon impact. He suffered major lower body injuries, including broken bones and internal injuries due to the crash.
The patient was flown to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno to be treated for critical but considered non-life-threatening injuries. His name was not disclosed.
Meanwhile, the van continued off the road and ultimately slammed into several trees. The driver, 23-year-old Manuel Rosales, was taken to a Madera County hospital with minor wounds.
Rosales was believed to be driving under the influyence of alcohol when the incident occurred. The Madera resident was later booked into Madera County jail Monday on suspicion of DUI.
