Customer Badly Injured After Mail Truck Plows Into Spring Valley Liquor Store
SPRING VALLEY (April 7, 2020) – One was killed and another was badly injured after a postal truck plowed into a store along Jamacha Boulevard Tuesday.
According to report by San Diego Union-Tribune and KUSI News, the fatal accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. in the La Presa community.
California Highway Patrol said the mail truck was going east when it swerved north across traffic lanes and then jumped a curb.
The truck collided with a Jeep parked outside España Liquor in the 9500 block of Jamacha Boulevard. The postal vehicle ultimately slammed into the store.
Postal Worker Killed After Truck Hits España Liquor Store
Officers affirmed that the mail truck became lodged into the front of the building near the front counter as a result of the incident.
San Miguel Fire & Rescue officials responded to the scene and rescued the truck operator, a 50-year-old man described as a postal worker, found pinned in the wreckage.
Paramedics rushed him to Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa where he later died. Authorities determined that he suffered a medical issue prior to crashing the truck into the business.
Medical personnel also transported a customer of the store to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego with a moderate leg injury.
The names of the deceased and wounded victims have not been yet released. Meanwhile, the incident left the commercial building with extensive damage. The investigation is ongoing.
