Major Injury Car Accident on State Route 137/Avenue 199
TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 11, 2024) — At least one person was seriously injured Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash at Avenue 199 (SR-137) and Road 36 in Waukena, a census-designated place in Tulare County.
The collision occurred at a sharp curve in the roadway around 5:16 a.m. on Jan. 11th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials a gray 2016 Nissan Rogue SUV and a second vehicle were involved.
The Tulare County Fire Department responded and located at least one person with major injuries. The dispatch report mentioned the possibility of airlifting the patient by Life Star to Adventist Health in Hanford.
Meanwhile, tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles from the roadway.
Investigators are working to determine fault for the crash on Avenue 199 in Waukena.
Tulare County Traffic Statistics
There were 2463 injury and fatality collisions in Tulare County in 2020, according to the most recent statistics compiled by the Office of Traffic Safety. Also, 376 of these collisions involved alcohol and 357 were speed related, the report said. The county ranks 22nd among 58 similar sized counties in California for it’s number of traffic injuries and fatalities.
Furthermore, the report states that 92 of the injury or fatality collisions involved a motorcyclist and 80 involved a pedestrian.
