Police say the woman had been riding a 3-wheeled bicycle when she dropped something and then stopped to pick it up, got off the bike and was struck by the motorist about 10:46 p.m. The pedestrian had been riding her adult tricycle against traffic, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.
The driver was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when they struck the woman, but took off without stopping to help her as required under California law.
Paramedics responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where she is being treated by physician for major injuries.
