Major Injury Collision on State Route 111 Near Bombay Beach
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif., (May 7, 2026) — A traffic collision involving major injuries occurred early Thursday morning on State Route 111, just north of Bombay Beach, leaving at least one individual critically injured.
The incident was reported on May 7th at approximately 4:39 a.m. at mile marker 111, near the intersection of Highway 111 and A Street just north of Brawley. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash involved a vehicle that veered off the roadway and came to rest roughly 100 feet from the pavement, close to train tracks.
Initial reports indicate a wrong-way vehicle was traveling in the northbound lanes, causing another driver to swerve before the collision occurred. The driver who swerved reportedly remained inside the vehicle and was unable to move, necessitating immediate medical attention.
Emergency responders, including Imperial County Sheriff’s Office and American Medical Response (AMR) personnel, were dispatched to the scene. Medical units were en route shortly after the call, with paramedics arriving to provide assistance and transport injured parties to a local hospital.
