Major Injury Crash Interstate 8, Imperial Highway in Ocotillo

June 25, 2025 | Imperial County, CA — At least one person was seriously injured early Wednesday morning in a crash on the eastbound Interstate 8 near the Imperial Highway off ramp in the Ocotillo area of Imperial County.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) a silver Scion TC crashed around 5:15 a.m. on June 25th, roughly a quarter mile east of the Imperial Highway off ramp.

Early reports indicated the vehicle veered off the roadway and came to rest on the other side of a barbed-wire fence, sustaining significant damage. The driver, described in dispatch logs as a female, was located near the roadway shortly after the incident.

Emergency services responded quickly, including units from Imperial County Sheriff’s Office, US Border Patrol, and American Medical Response (AMR). A medical helicopter was dispatched, and the victim was transported by REACH Air Medical Services to Desert Regional Medical Center.

CHP later classified the crash as a major injury incident and began coordinating with local authorities, including arranging for an Indio-based officer to perform a blood draw as part of the investigation. Towing services were also called to recover the totaled vehicle.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
