At Least 1 Seriously Hurt, 5 Vehicles Involved
NEWMAN, California (September 6, 2016) – A major injury collision took place on the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway Tuesday afternoon, according to California Highway Patrol dispatch team.
The multi-vehicle crash occurred abut 3:12 p.m. near Stuhr Road off-ramp. CHP described three of at least five vehicles involved as a box truck, a Toyota Venza and a black GMC Terrain.
In a report by The Modesto Bee, CHP said the driver of a small car stepped on his brakes upon seeing an officer on the northbound shoulder contacting a man walking on the highway. The traffic came to an abrupt stop.
A fifth vehicle behind the small car, a box truck, veered right to avoid hitting the fourth car in line but clipped the back of it and tore off the side of the truck.
The box truck then careened left and collided with the third, second and finally the small car ahead.
The driver of the small car was ejected landed in the fast lane, Leon said. He was seriously injured and was then airlifted to Doctors Medical Center for treatment.
Meanwhile, the condition of the other parties involved in the wreck remained unknown. CHP said the pedestrian left the scene and could not be located.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
