Rollover Collision on State Route 24 in Oakland
OAKLAND, Calif. (Feb. 14, 2024) — A major injury Oakland crash happened Wednesday on Highway 24 at the entrance to the Caldecott Tunnel.
The collision occurred on the westbound State Route 24 at around 12:40 p.m. on Feb. 14th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The drivers of a dark blue Honda CRV and a white Toyota 4 Runner SUV were involved and blocking the Nos. 1 and 2 lanes. CHP officials stated after the crash one of the vehicles was found overturned and the other was stalled in the left lane of Highway 24.
2-Vehicle Car Accident in Oakland
Firefighters were on the scene extricating one person trapped in the overturned vehicle. Also, paramedics responded and located one person with a major head injury, but the person was “still responsive” when they were taken to a hospital.
Meanwhile, tow trucks removed the Honda due to major rear-end damage and the Toyota with major side damage from the highway. Both are being held for evidence as traffic investigators are working to determine liability for the Oakland crash on Highway 24.
Finally, police issued a SigAlert and closed down the westbound lanes of the Caldecott Tunnel temporarily due to the cleanup and investigation.
