A bicyclist was fatally struck Monday morning, August 7, on the Edwards Air Force Base which is located in Los Angeles County, per the AV Times.
The incident happened at precisely 7:30 a.m. when a man riding a bicycle along Rosamond Boulevard was struck by a passing vehicle.
Per the AV Times, special unit Air force Security Forces were first to attend to the victim before paramedics were notified.
The unidentified male was loaded into an ambulance and rushed to Antelope Valley Hospital. He sadly did not survive and was later pronounced dead.
The AV times indicated that the victim is indeed affiliated with Edwards Air Force Base.
Details regarding what exactly occurred have not been released as the investigation is ongoing.
A forensic examination of both the vehicle and the bicycle, as well as photos that were taken of the scene, will help investigators determine which party ultimately caused the accident. Other potential factors will be looked into as well including whether or not either the driver or the bicyclist were under the influence at the time of the accident? Was the driver driving recklessly or over the speed limit prior to impact? What were the road conditions and how was the lighting in the vicinity of where the accident occurred? Each of these factors will be assessed allowing police officials to draw up a final conclusion.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, families of deceased victims can file a wrongful death lawsuit against the at-fault parties seeking compensation for damages including medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income and loss of love and companionship.
