Mamlekat Joseph, 71, Killed in Crash Near 3rd Street and Magnolia Avenue
LONG BEACH (February 8, 2020) – An elderly pedestrian was killed after a traffic collision in the area of Third Street and Magnolia Avenue on Saturday.
According to an article written by The Press Telegram, authorities identified the deceased victim as 71-year-old Long Beach resident Mamlekat Joseph.
Police said Mamlekat was crossing Third Street southbound on the west side of Magnolia Avenue when for an unknown reason a 2002 Bluebird bus struck her.
The incident began when the bus headed north on Magnolia Avenue tried to turn left onto Third Street. At the same time, Joseph waited at the intersection and crossed as she had the walk signal sign.
Elderly Pedestrian Hit by Charter Bus in Long Beach Saturday
In the process, the yellow charter bus hit the woman who then became trapped underneath the vehicle. The accident occurred at about 11:15 a.m. near the Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse.
Paramedics responded to the site and freed the elderly victim from being trapped under the bus. However, they ultimately pronounced her dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the 25-year-old Van Nuys man driving the bus at the time stopped after hitting Joseph and cooperated with the officers.
The bus did not have any passenger when the fatal incident took place. The tragic collision remains under investigation.
