Solo-Vehicle Fatal Crash into Light Pole at San Bruno Intersection
SAN BRUNO, CA (Sept. 2, 2026) — A 22-year-old San Francisco man was killed Sunday after the driver of a black sedan he was riding in slammed into a light pole in San Bruno at El Camino Real and the westbound I-380 off-ramp, police said.
The deadly collision occurred on August 30th around 1 a.m. when the 29-year-old male driver went off the roadway and crashed the front end of the car into the light pole. The car’s front-end sustained major damage and was totaled.
Paramedics responded and located both the injured driver and the 22-year-old passenger with sustained serious life-threatening injuries. The two young men were rushed to the hospital, but the 22-year-old passenger later died from his injuries.
Meanwhile, police working on the case determined the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and the San Francisco man was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The unidentified motorist was booked into Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing bodily injury or death, and being in possession of a controlled substance, police said.
The San Bruno Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is handling the investigation.
