Man, 25, Fatally Struck by Tow Truck
COACHCHELLA (June 21, 2017)- According to KESQ News, a deadly pedestrian accident was reported Wednesday morning on Dillon Road near Highway 86 and Spotlight 29 Casino.
Police officials received notification at 12:10 a.m. roughly that a man had been struck by a tow truck while walking along the west side of Dillon Road.
The victim, a 25-year-old man who has not been named, sadly died of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver of the tow truck, a 31-year-old man of Indio, was not arrested, per the KESQ News. The news report did not indicate whether the Indio man was cited, however.
Per the article, a long stretch of Dillon Road between Highway 86 and Highway 111 remained shut down for quite some time while police perused the scene.
This story will be updated once the victim’s name is released and more information is unveiled.
Based on this news report, there are still several unanswered questions here. Was the driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Did excessive speed or distracted driving play a role? Was the driver negligent in any other way? Was the young man walking along the shoulder or was he out in the middle of the road? A government that failed to ensure the safety of pedestrians due to poor road design or failure to maintain street lighting, may also have some responsibility. We trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.A
