Just before midnight, the victim, a 44-year-old man from Sonora, was struck by the driver of a 2008 Toyota Prius traveling eastbound.

We offer our warmest of thoughts, our prayers, and condolences to the family members of the victim as they search for peace and comfort.
Sonora Wrongful Death Attorney
Based on the details provided so far from the report, it seems as though the driver could be held responsible for the collision as it is believed the victim had not been walking in the middle of the street upon being struck. There are still many unanswered questions, however. Under California law, drivers who are approaching a pedestrian are required to exercise due care and reduce their speed for the safety of the pedestrian.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, the family members of the victim will be entitled to a wrongful death lawsuit following this incident. Wrongful death victims are entitled to compensation for damages including funeral costs, pain and suffering, and loss of love and companionship.
