Fatal Pedestrian Accident Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Dec. 21, 2018) — An elderly man in his 80s was crossing Atlantic Avenue in his wheelchair when he was struck by an SUV Thursday night near Spring Street.
The collision took place about 8 p.m. on Dec. 20, 2018. The man was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk when the oncoming 2005 Ford Escape crashed into him.
Paramedics took the pedestrian to a hospital, but sadly he died of his injuries.
The 21-year-old Long Beach man who was driving the vehicle stopped and was questioned by police about what happened, but no arrests were made. Alcohol and or drugs were not suspected.
The Long Beach Police Department is heading up the investigation.

A full investigation into this tragic accident is underway by police to determine fault. Pedestrians typically have the right-of-way in the roadway and drivers must yield to them.
