Man Killed in Bakersfield Pedestrian Accident on California Avenue was in Crosswalk

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2026) — A man was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday night on California Avenue in Bakersfield as he walked in a marked crosswalk at Business Center Drive, the Bakersfield Police Department said.

Police responded to California Avenue and Business Center Drive at 6:32 p.m. on Nov. 1 and began investigating what happened, authorities said.

Detectives determined the victim was walking westbound in the crosswalk when he was hit by a driver in a southbound Toyota Prius.

The Bakersfield Fire Department responded and confirmed the man’s death at the scene, just north of Stockdale Highway.

Authorities say the driver stopped and cooperated with investigators. It’s unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash.
