Man Riding Bicycle Killed in Car Accident on PCH in Huntington Beach

(UPDATED 5/5/2026) 70-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed in Huntington Beach Collision on Pacific Coast Highway
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (April 27, 2026) — Bob Woods, 70, was struck and killed Monday in a bicycle accident along Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach, authorities said.
The deadly crash was reported on April 27th around 11:50 a.m. just north of Newland Street, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department. Officers arrived to find the man unconscious in the roadway. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police said the vehicle involved was a white Subaru Impreza. The 20-year-old driver from Huntington Beach remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities indicated drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been a factor for the driver, though it remains under investigation whether impairment may have played a role for the bicyclist.
Preliminary findings indicate the cyclist was traveling southbound on Pacific Coast Highway before he merged into traffic and attempted to turn east onto Newland Street when he was struck. The Subaru was also traveling southbound at the time of the collision.
The Huntington Beach Police Department’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Traffic Investigator Steve Flynn at 714-536-5666.
