Pedestrian Accident on Sweetwater Road in South Bay Area
NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2024) — A fatal hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian happened early Saturday morning on Sweetwater Road in National City.
The deadly crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 28th, according to the Times of San Diego.
The 30-year-old man was crossing in the 2400 block of Sweetwater Road when an oncoming dark-colored SUV hit him.
The driver pulled over and went to assist the injured man, but instead went back to their vehicle and fled the scene.
The man was left on the side of the roadway dying until paramedics rushed him to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego.
Unfortunately, the pedestrian later died from his injuries.
Meanwhile, roughly eight hours after the crash, investigators located and arrested Bennie Ray Womack, 43, in San Diego.
It’s unknown at this time how they found the suspect in the case.
