As per the report, a prior accident took place shortly before the injury crash. At about 8:15 p.m., a silver Honda Accord rear-ended a gray Toyota Sienna in the southbound lanes of the freeway near Ygnacio Valley Road.
No one was injured from this initial crash until the man who was driving the Honda and his female passenger decided to walk away from their car and walk through the northbound lanes of the freeway.
The California Highway Patrol team affirmed the couple made it across only one lane before they were stuck by a maroon Hyundai Sonata. The impact launched both parties to the right-hand shoulder, and suffering in life-threatening injuries.
Both injured are currently undergoing treatment at John Muir Medical Center. Due to coroners still working on notifying their next of kin, the identities of the patients were not disclosed.
Investigation is ongoing to determine charges and liabilities.
