Man, 23, Identified as Victim of Crash on Ronald Reagan 118 Freeway
CHATSWORTH, Calif. (Jan. 8, 2024) — Manuel Camacho Jr., 23, died when he was impaled by lumber from the back of a truck Monday morning in a crash on the westbound Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway in Chatsworth.
The traffic accident occurred in the No. 2 lane of State Route 118 at about 8:50 a.m. on Jan. 8th, just east of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Los Angeles Police Department officers and Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene.
Detectives reported a driver in a flatbed truck, a yellow Penske moving truck and an SUV were traveling on the freeway when they were involved in a collision. The reportedly came off the flatbed trailer and crashed into the front of the yellow Penske moving truck. A blue Honda Pilot SUV was also involved in the collision. Manuel Camacho Jr., who was in the Penske truck, was impaled by the lumber and died following the collision.
The young man had recently became the first in his family to earn a college degree back in December 2023. He received his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Azusa Pacific University. His family has established a Gofundme to raise money for his funeral.
Investigators continue to work on the case.
