Manuel Martinez Vazquez, 23, Kills Pedestrian in Hollister DUI Crash on Sunnyslope
HOLLISTER, CA (June 21, 2021) – Authorities detained Manuel Martinez Vazquez after a fatal DUI crash on Sunnyslope Road in Hollister.
Police determined that the 23-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place on Sunday evening.
The incident began when 32-year-old Sarah Villar and 33-year-old Tayler Schmitt were walking their dog on the sidewalk in Hollister.
At the same time, Manuel Martinez Vazquez was driving on Sunnyslope Road. He then went off the north side of the roadway, overcorrected and swerved across the road.

Police said Manuel Martinez Vazquez ultimately hit the Hollister couple. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced Sarah Villar dead at the scene.
Tayler Schmitt sustained unspecified injuries and their dog ended up unharmed as a result of the collision. Medical personnel rushed him to a hospital for treatment.
The Benito Link and KSBW News wrote that the crash occurred on June 20 shortly after 6 p.m. Meanwhile, police soon arrested Manuel Martinez Vazquez on DUI with alcohol causing bodily harm, vehicular manslaughter, and murder.
Authorities booked him at the San Benito County Jail in lieu of a $1.25 million bail. The Hollister DUI collision is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 636-4330.
