Marcelo Bejarano Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on I-15 Freeway, Fallbrook

FALLBROOK, Calif. (August 31, 2026) — Marcelo Bejarano, 38, of Escondido, died following a head-on crash on August 11th involving a wrong-way driver on the Interstate 15 Freeway near Fallbrook, authorities said.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 12:24 a.m. Aug. 11, 2026, on southbound Interstate 15 south of Mission Road.

According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, emergency personnel responded to a collision involving a Ford Escape traveling the wrong way on the highway. The wrong-way vehicle collided head-on with Bejarano’s Honda Accord.

Bejarano was found at the crash scene and pronounced dead at approximately 12:44 a.m. He was 38 years old. Meanwhile, the other motorist, a 32-year-old San Diego man, was reportedly driving intoxicated and was hospitalized with major injuries.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.

No additional information about the wrong-way driver, including whether that person was injured or arrested, was immediately available.

The investigation remains ongoing.
