Speed Contest Ends in Deadly Traffic Collision on 91 Freeway Tuesday
Riverside, CA (April 6, 2021) – Police arrested 25-year-old Marcos Calderon in relation with a fatal traffic collision on Interstate 91 Freeway early Tuesday.
The Press Enterprise News reported Marcos Calderon was behind the wheel of a Nissan Altima heading east on 91 Freeway. Preliminary investigation revealed Marcos Calderon appeared to have been racing with a man driving a BMW 550.
Our sources indicated both drivers were traveling at more than 100 mph near the Corona-Riverside border.
When the motorists approached the Buchanan Street, both the Nissan and BMW veered off the freeway. First responders found the BMW smashed against a tree, and engulfed in flames. According to the news article published online, the driver of the BMW was unable to get out of the fiery wreckage and sadly died. Authorities briefly identified the deceased as a 19-year-old young man from Corona.

Meanwhile, the Nissan apparently came to a rest in a nearby parking lot. Paramedics first attended to Marcos Calderon, then later released him at the scene. Police then arrested the man on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated; participating in a speed contest causing death; and driving under the influence of alcohol causing death.
The California Highway Patrol group continue to investigate the horrible crash.
