Bicyclist Struck on New Year’s Day Dies at Hospital
ENCINITAS, Calif. (Jan. 3, 2025) — Marcos Perez Domingo, 45, died two days after suffering major injuries in a bicycle accident on Encinitas Boulevard on New Year’s Day.
It happened around 6 p.m. on Jan. 1st, near Cerro Street, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
A 79-year-old woman driving a Hyundai Elantra was traveling eastbound on Encinitas Boulevard when she struck the Encinitas man due to unknown circumstances.
Paramedics transported Marcos Perez Domingo to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, but he died at 2:22 p.m. on Jan. 3rd, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
City of Encinitas Bicycle Accidents
Bicycle accidents involving motorists are common in the city of Encinitas.
Even in locations such as this one where there are marked bicycle lanes. Many drivers are distracted or they run traffic lights or speed without concern for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The Office of Traffic Safety reported 32 bicyclists, including seven who were under 15 years old, were involved in collisions with vehicles in 2021.
Two dozen of these cases involved a driver who was speeding, eight involved a hit-and-run driver, and eleven cases happened at night.
There will always be a mismatch between cyclists and motorists as long as they both share the road.
