Maria and Carlos Pimentel Killed in Crash on Highway 145 by DUI Suspect
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (Dec. 31, 2025) — Carlos Pimentel, 69, and his wife, Maria Pimentel, 62, both of Coalinga, were killed Monday evening in a head-on crash involving a suspected DUI driver on Highway 145 in Fresno County, authorities said.
According to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office, the husband and wife died at the scene of the collision, which occurred just before 7:30 p.m. on Highway 145 south of Ford Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash was caused by 30-year-old Shawn Borecha of Riverside, who was driving southbound on Highway 145. Investigators said Borecha attempted to pass two vehicles and veered into the northbound lane, where his car collided head-on with the Pimentels’ Hyundai.
Both Carlos and Maria suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Borecha sustained minor injuries.
CHP officers arrested Borecha on suspicion of driving under the influence. He is facing multiple felony charges, including manslaughter.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
