Woman Killed in Crash Involving DUI Driver is Identified
ORANGE, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2024) — Maria Minerva Arroyo-Lozada, 40, of Orange, died Sunday in a crash involving an alleged DUI driver at Tustin Street and Collins Avenue in Orange.
The woman’s 13-year-old daughter was among two teenagers and two adults traveling in the same SUV who were seriously injured when another driver broadsided their vehicle.
The deadly, two-vehicle crash occurred around 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29th, according to the Orange County Register.
Police reported the suspect in the other vehicle had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood at the time of the deadly crash, police said.
Roberto Noe Monfil Xitlama, 18, of Orange, was reportedly southbound on Tustin Street when he failed to stop for a red light at Collins Avenue. His vehicle crashed broadside into the passenger side of a westbound red Toyota Rav4 occupied by two adults and two teens. The driver in the Toyota, the deceased woman’s boyfriend, had a green light, police said.
Paramedics transported two 13-year-old girls and two adult men to the hospital for treatment of minor to serious injuries.
Police arrested the 18-year-old man on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
The suspect did not have a valid driver’s license with him, but he did have a Mexican passport.
The case remains under investigation.
